Still playing with Tyvek Melting

I had two lovely pieces of post today. THANKS Ladies.....Firstly a lovely card from Doreen

and two lovely ATC's from Jacqueline. Now to Tyvek again - I have melted so many pieces over the last couple of days I now have a box full and no ideas of what to do with it!!. I did, however find by this evening that I can almost control the result I want. I folded and cut one piece of Tyvek so that I would have two halves to experiment with. The first I heated from the Paint side and got the lovely dipped holes. The second half was heated from the white side and you get the holed bubbles. May work on this idea for a few more pieces and perhaps an idea of what to do will come!!

Sunday Part 2 - More Tyvek Postcards

Are you ready for lots of photos? - well here you are then... but please note the colour has gone on some of the pics - the work is mostly gold and bronze not the orange/red - when they are finished I will try to get better pics....

First up - the completed postcard for Donna and the other one which I am keeping.
Next the 'recipe' for more similar cards... Background first...
The background is tissue paper scrunched and bonded to calico, washed with coffee (if you know my work you know I use a lot of coffee!!) then highlighted with some gold foil and then finally stitched. Next the Tyvek squares.... Gold Painted tyvek
Melted....

and arranged on the background....


These were then heavily stitched (no puff paint on these gold ones).


They are now ready for beading tonight.
Then there are the bronze coloured ones......
Background - this background is the backing paper from coffee coloured bondaweb (those who paint bondaweb - I hope you keep the paper for use later??!!)

Then some other bronze tyvek shapes on a similar background.....ready for beads.... and the next one...... Here you can see the blob of gold paint before spreading - this tyvek was more scrunched and less bubbly..What more?......... OK enough of the Tyvek for now (There are many many more on the go though!! - I may just show you the finished pieces and not the recipes so as not to bore you too much).
Then the question does gift wrap foil melt?
The answer - OH OH YES....... so what can I use these for?

And... finally for tonight..... A sandwich made from chiffon, enclosing snippets of stuff and puff paint and gold foil ...... heavily machine stitched, ready for some hand stitching and beads (one postcard and two ATC's - waste not etc....)

Sunday Part 1 and failed experiments

The failed experiments - the washers and buttons I painted in an earlier post - the Inkabilities Earthtones and the Perfect Pearls wiped off all those that I had painted. Only the Inkabilities Metallics stayed. What a waste of time but you have to experiment - I did try heat setting the Perfect Pearls and I did try a glue and ink mix but still no luck. I will have to wait for my order of ink specifically for metal but can't quite remember what make it was.

Any way on to today's postings - I think there may be more than one again today as I experiment more with Tyvek . - This is what the kitchen floor looked like last night before I went to bed - 12 large envelopes opened out and painted...... Close up of one red/pink and gold sheet.......The other side of the kitchen had painted bondaweb drying.......
and even the paper that I used to protect the work surface from paint when painting the very edges of the tyvek will be used for a background to something.....
I seem to be adding stuff to the boxes of stuff to use rather than using it up!

More work so far today - Tyvek

I seem to be spending more time today playing with Tyvek - I just love the way the bubbles form with the iron and how the heat gun melts it differently. These two envelopes have been painted with some iridescent airbrush paint (hoping they come out a bit more pastel). Then here is the red and gold acrylic (pics don't really show the colour)
A couple of pieces ironed.These last two show two pieces the same size, snipped with scissors the same and then the top one ironed on the paint side and the lower one ironed on the white back side - I love the craters of the top one. I feel more of these coming. But there is almost a box load already!!Perhaps a series of Tyvek encrusted postcards?????

Can only work small scale

Lots of photos for you today.... Firstly how disappointing is the garden at the moment.. I have lots of green tomatoes - where is the sun they need.. The Sweet Peas are struggling - very few flowers..
and the lilies can only open one flower at a time if that....
The rust dyeing - I have had three rusty items covered in poly/cotton for a while now - they are a pair of sheers, a sharp sythe and a stake prong. I have had to 'bake' them in the airing cupboard as there has been no sunshine, however the results have been reasonable...

this is obviously from the sheers!!


Now i have wrapped the three items with different fabrics, a piece of blue linen, a piece of gold silk and another piece of poly cotton - let's see what happens. The next question is what am I going to do with these pieces??????
Next, whilst clearing the studio I found a large box of old Tyvek envelopes so I started painting with acrylic and cutting slits...

Then the heat gun came out rather than the iron....
The result - yet to be used...
I also found a pot of dimensional fabric medium (puff paint) - still sealed but when I opened it up it looked like thick white Jelly (Jello) - can I use it? Is there a way of revitalising it??

Next a postcard I am making for Donna (Quilt Pixie). I started with a piece of fine furnishing fabric which had orange and turquoise diamonds (rather un exciting). I covered it with a piece of gold painted bondaweb...

Then made some small tyvek bubbles.....
applied them with some puff paint and left it to dry overnight....
painted it today with Perfect Pearls....
now all I need to do is some stitching and some beads.

The pics below are some postcards which have been hanging around for some time as I am not sure what to do next.. They are magazine pages which I have cut, woven together and stitched, but I have really no idea what will happen next...

This is also another UFO. Hand-dyed cotton, cut into strips, woven and stitched - perhaps a quiltie if I could decide what goes on top?!
