How do you do it?
I have a question for those of you out in blog land to help me think...
When you have an abstract in your sketchbook that you like and think it could become a textile work - what do you do next? How do you transalate it into fibre?
It depends... Sometimes, I'll work it out in my head, rehearsing techniques, materials and colours. Other times I might do a sort of schematic drawing to record ways of working it. I might do some collage or more drawing, or I might sample. I find a nice, long, steamy, perfumed bath very conducive to planning out work!
I make a list. Something like 1) Create background from ..... 2) Machine Embroidery .... 3) Add (whatever).... Sorry that is very simplistic but it help me work out the structure and the "how to" - then the design follows. Hope that helps! K ummm - your blog only seems to like blogger people.
