Imieniny - Sto lat Sto lat (to me!)

If you have ever seen a Polish calendar, you may have noticed that each day of the year has a name on it. These indicate what is called Imieniny or “name day”, the feast day of the saint for whom you are named. Poles over the age of thirteen usually celebrate their imieniny, rather than their birthdays (urodziny).

I always thought it a bit odd and unfair that my parents celebrated both their birthdays and their name day! So I decided this year I would start to celebrate my Imieniny too!! So it's Happy Imieniny to me today!!! By the way 'Sto lat' means '100 years' - which Poles say on your birthday - meaning - happy day and hope you live for hundreds more!
To celebrate - my mum did send me a card and both my children did send texts messages - thanks - all I have done is go on a very early - longer walk !! How silly am I !! I do wish the camera on my phone was a) quicker to start and b) took better pics. I was not able to photograph the two very very tiny baby wrens that popped up and these rabbits are a little far - see the two specs on the driveway? The chickens were friendlier and as the bank had been cut back look what I found... the blossoms are huge and I am really looking forward to the next few days when all these buds should open.... I think I will take my proper camera with me in future.
Back to the 'Waste Not Waistcoat' now - it's colour may change!!

Sto lat! Many years ago I had to make a cake for a Polish friend to take to Poland to his father and on the top I iced 'Sto lat'

Happy names day, Anna. We also celebrate our names days in Luxembourg, but it's a (catholic)custom that disappears here. My mum's, my twin sister's and my name start with "Marie-" so it's always a special day on the 15th August.
