I have had a lovely busy weekend but done no art work at all. I am in one of my usual ruts - I want to get on with my costumes but I also want to do something different. I am not sure what at this stage - I need inspiration. So am taking time out to re think things. To start I have purchased two inspiring new books....... Then on Saturday I went out for the day - first to the museum in Trowbridge - never been there before and it is really quite cute (and FREE). Trowbridge is currently holding their Textile and Weaving festival so I had a look at the small exhibition in the museum. Some nice stuff. I also did not realise that Isaac Pitman - the inventor of shorthand came from Trowbridge - there was an inspiring item in the textile show on his work. I think I could do something with shorthand - I remember learning it years ago. On from Trowbridge I went to the Castle in Fairleigh Hungerford - Here is a link to their site : http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server.php?show=nav.16178 it is a lovely small quiet place where I managed to take 180 photos!! So I will only show you a couple..... this is the 'Lady' tower. In one of the exhibition spaces they have a suit of chain mail - I did not realise it is sooooo very heavy, but also very inspirational.
Today I went for my walk only this time I walked for almost two hours.... I reached this....

Spoke to these two ladies....and I saw one of these.... Back home in the garden I cut the lavender (bush half cut here) the pile of cut lavender is twice the amount from last year - it gets better and better - then I noticed a spider wrapping an insect in one of the holes of the iron work table top - you can't really see it in the picture but I do like the composition of rusty hole. I also discovered I have accidentally grown a tomato plant - guess it is too late for it to produce fruit.... and finally I took photos of the clematis seed heads - they are lovely.
Now I am off to read.

I looked at your postcards on flickr and really think you have a feel for surface decoration....when in a rut always go back to your beginnings!
soon you will be off in a new direction!

Hi Anna, would be interested to know what you think of the two new books... they are both on my wish list but I'm trying to cut down and only buy the REALLY essential ones! Expect these two will both creep into that category... sigh!
