I have been asked several times recently - including by Jill (as a comment of my recent blog) about my costumes.
Jill asked 'Are they to be worn or are they an art piece in their own right? Which they are, of course either way.'
So thought I'd say to anyone interested....
They are a variety of adult sizes and could be worn if anyone wanted them for a production or just as a costume (although most take too long to make and would be expensive if I costed them out) but I think I am making them just as Art pieces in their own right! Having made various items in the past from boxes, books, panels and dolls I feel I have this inner need to make costumes (sounds daft really)!!
I have always loved costumes and have a long list of further costumes I want to make just because! The idea really came into its own when I made my first 'tutu' during the historic heirlooms course - I had this background story idea that the tutu would be worn in the Masquerade ball of Phantom of the Opera. Many of the future ideas are based on tutu's or 18th century costumes (which I am very inspired by). Most of the costume ideas have 'fictional story backgrounds' - like the Phantom tutu and my Mid Summer Nights Dream Fairies. The ideas include making costumes for Star Wars Princess Amidala and my Dandy Highwayman idea for Adam Ant (remember him?)! All just because I love costumes.
I do make corsets/bodices which are much more wearable if anyone ever wanted to buy one!
Thanks for the interest and I am very happy to answer any more questions or even show the costumes to groups or guilds once I have finished this latest set.

While doing C&G Creative Embroidery at college, I was fascinated by the creations from the Theatre Costume class who were also working in the textile studio, so am enjoying following the production of your "costume art". Really looking forward to seeing them all together as a group when you've finished!
