I stand up and get knocked down
You know there are only so many times you can get knocked down before you give up - I heard back from college that the course I had proposed was considered 'in this current economic climate to be not commercial viable'. So that's a no then! Currently thinking although I will finish the Fairies I may not exhibit them at all ! I think I will give up trying to do something with my art and just make it for me!

Yes make something for yourself you will see that it will keep you going strong. Read my blog about the cancer comfort dolls and you will see your not alone out there. I live in an area where art is like something from out of space. Hang in there and plz post what your making. Really want to see what you will make for yourself.

What about doing workshops? I know the Embroiderers Guild are always looking for looking for speakers/tutors. Or you could give talks on your work. Is Chelmsford to far for you to travel???
Don't give up - your work is beautiful, and anyone who knows anything about textiles knows how much care and work and talent goes into it.
It's a sad fact that there are very few artists of any kind who make enough from their art to live on, and very few indeed of them work with textiles. You either have to have a day job (as I do), travel up and down the country to teach day schools, workshops and the like to break even, or have a rich husband (I live in hope!). On the plus side, once you've resigned yourself to earning a living doing something dull, your textile art can become a true expression of your creativity, rather than knocking out finger puppets because they're all that'll sell at a craft fair, say.
Focus on your art for its own sake and for what it means to you. Make something that is beautiful and that you love. After that, everything else is a bonus.
