FEBRUARY - Still making postcards!
It's becoming a bit of a compulsion - this postcard making and I'm also enjoying making felt by hand using the bubble wrap method. It is both a great way to relieve the stress of my work day and so relaxing. This postcard made 1st Feb started out as a very fine pre-felt measuring about 10 inches by 8 inches. With a few pieces of white twinkle nylon dotted about. I stitched herringbone stitch (it could I guess be used for the TAST challenge??) using brown and gold yarn in a very random and loose way. Then felted to my hearts content until the piece had shrunk to just a little over 6 x 4. You can see the stitches have formed such lovely curls as they embedded themselves. Obviously the colours were quite bright as I took this photo whilst the piece was wet. Has anyone ever attended Artfibrefest from the UK? I'd love to attend a course overseas as I think the ladies is US are so much freer with textiles than we are in UK, but wonder how do you manage with your sewing machine - I would not like to take either of my machines on a plane. I have an old Bernina 1015 Sport which I use extensively for working on aluminium, she only has the basic stitches. The other machine is the Pfaff 2170 - top of the range computerised piece of kit. I would not dream of transporting either of them. What about other stuff, materials etc how on earth do you cope - when I go on a course here in UK I take a car full of stuff how would I manage going to the US??

Anna -
First of all, I love your work! Your blog is always SO inspiring!
Second, I'm married to a Brit even though I'm an American. I have his Auntie's sewing machine - but I cannot use it. If you were thinking of coming over here for a convention, you might want to consider renting a sewing machine for your stay. The UK ones don't play nice with our electricity!
Most conventions offer machine rental as part of their services.
I hope you get to come and play on our side of the pond soon.
Denise
Lovely Summer colours!!
wow Anna, looks like marble, really like this effect. how does the bubble wrap method differ from regular felting?
Well if you came to the US and took a class where I was going to be I'd certainly loan you one of my spare machines to use! For some reason your blog fell off my bloglines, now I have some reading to catch up on, you've been busy! Love this postcard by the way.
