I went on a course a couple of years ago with a lovely lady called C.June Barnes . She taught a lovely texture technique where we machine stitched various white fabrics onto a very fine wool felt or wool guaze and then boiled them in the washing machine. The heat obviously shrinks the wool down causing the top fabrics to scrunch into beautiful textures. Once dried we then proceeded to dye them.
I have several samples which over the next few days I am going to add to, enhance and turn into postcards - they are just the right size.
Note to Sophie - the bubble wrap felting - it's bubbles up so your wool is on the bubbles - they work like hundreds of tiny hands rubbing the fibres!!

Anna this is stunning I love anything that has that rusted look and the texture is brilliant.
Love the effect this technique achieves. The colours also are very effective - ethereal colours on the heavily scrunched background are very effective.
Anna, great minds think alike, I contacted June Barnes for my work on my hanging and she sent me the chapter on shrinking from her soon to be released book. That's how I came to shrink the felt backing on mine, as I didn't have wool gauze! that's how I did the card I sent to you.
i really love this work! i always work on a felted basis and now i'm waiting for the embellisher to be delivered... this is a wonderful possibility to get more texture!
