K&S Show

Spent a really lovely day at the Knitting and Stitching show on Thursday. Met up with my friend Jan - it was so nice to wander around the show with company. Most years I have been on my own and it was so much better to be able to discuss the various pieces on show with someone! Thanks for a lovely day Jan - we must meet up more often!! There were some fantastic exhibits but the person whose work really took my breath away was Hélène Soubeyran. She has compressed twenty years worth of textiles into towers with resin and then had them sliced. They look like rock formations and are just fantastic. Her website is under construction but I suggest you keep an eye out for her work! The VCH retrospective exhibit was lovely. It was fun to see the works all together. Over the years I have seen many of these pieces during their construction. Thanks Maggie and Jane for putting it together so beautifully. The fashion show was also a wonderful 40 mins! There are some very talented young people out there. Did I spend a lot of money? No - I was very careful and only bought a couple items - to use for homework, a couple of show catalogues (like all the old 62 group catalogues) and one book - the new book by Alysn Midgelow-Marsden -it's title - 'this lustr'ed cloth'.

You are so lucky to be able to go to these shows, to have the quality and diversity of these shows in the UK---we rarely rarely rarely get even gallery exhibitions like this---sigh...
Or groups like GWE--bigger sigh...

I was there Thursday too, might have pushed past you in the crowds... I wish I'd had more time, as I only skimmed the surface, with having to do school runs on both ends of the day and being on the opposite side of London, but I did enjoy the VCH retrospective, among other things. And I also read an entire book on the tube & train to and from!

Aren't those pieces fantastic as are her smaller slices. I honestly believe that this year was one of the best with regards to the exhibits and I've worked out that this must be my 17th year. It is a fantastic show but I find I have to go for 2 days to be able to make the most of it and thats without doing any workshops and I don't think I'll be going on a Sunday again :)
