Back - I think

At least I am keeping my fingers crossed this lasts for more than a few seconds - Finally Orange sent out a BT telecoms engineer to poke about with my house!! He decided the dropping problem was caused by the fact that the PC and wireless 'live box' modem, were plugged into a telephone 'extension' rather than the 'main' socket!!!! So he re-wired both sockets to swap them over, rather than me moving everything into my kitchen!! I am a little confused considering when I moved into this house the engineer who plugged my phone in said he was plugging it into the 'main' socket - no one has a main socket in the kitchen, for a start no one would plug anything into this socket considering it is 6" away from the fitted fridge door so anything plugged in would be hit by the door each time it was opened (!!!) and NOTHING has changed in the last 6 years!!!! Why they should suddenly change over I have no idea, must be magic or the broadband fairies!!!! However, so far I have had the Internet via this - my own proper - connection for almost 24 hours now!!

My son has been home for the last couple of days as he is off to Germany tomorrow, for 6 months and it has been really good to see him even if only for a short while. He is one of those people that can help me feel better about myself and has been trying to push me to do something about my general state of 'misery' so whilst I have been so quiet - unable to blog - I have also been thinking a lot about my life in general and what I can do to help myself feel better and really get that spark back that I had at the end of last year and start of this year. I know it's been almost a full year with me moaning and groaning but I have some ideas for regaining that spark - I don't really want to wait until the New Year and make 'resolutions' about eating healthily and working every day on my art etc, etc, so I am not going to list what I am going to do but I will just DO IT from now!

To start this off - below are the latest pieces of work! -

I must point out however, that my 'good' sewing machine the Pfaff 2170 is currently poorly - not sure what has happened but her bottom tension is rubbish and I am taking her to the vet on Saturday so I am left with my equally 'good' reliable and old Bernina 1015 Sport! Limited in stitches but still a good work horse. My point being that the work I do over the next few weeks may be more of the old style me!!

Firstly.......

This years Christmas cards - I usually only send cards to family and everyone else gets a quick email to say I am donating to charity instead of sending cards, but I found this construction very therapeutic the other day and produced approx 30 or so cards - lost track counting!

Not sure who I will send them too yet. The second thing I have done is a little more rust dyeing - when I say little - I really mean lots. Mostly fabrics which I won't bore you with but this is something I am proud of and would like to show you. This started out as an old white vest top (well almost grey with wear) which I could not throw away being one of those hoarders - keeping just in case. So I wrapped it round the old scythe and hey presto..........
I am not sure why there are interesting marks in black but I have washed the top in the washing machine so they are there to stay and I rather like them. The other interesting thing about these black marks is that there have developed tiny holes on them - hope you can see below..... IT is NOT that the scythe is sharp and cut through as the top was wrapped very gently around the thing!
So there you are.... let's see how long this phase lasts this time!
PS - Myra - if you are reading this I still need your snail mail address to send your pocket bag and rust pieces to you.
PPS - anyone else who is waiting for either a pocket bag or rust pieces - if I have missed you please email me asap.

what a great Christmas card idea! They are absolutely charming and very inspiring -- may have to make one or two myself :-)

Anna - those are wonderful cards. The rust dyeing is cool - I've done a bit but I've been concerned with how the material will hold up or if it keeps rusting/deteriorating. I too got some black marks on mine - but only on parts that got dried out. Do you think the holes are from deterioration of the cloth? Do you use anything to stop the rusting process?

The email will be coming from itsmyra AT northstate DOT net if you need to put the addy in your spam filter or something. Sending again right now. :o) I can't wait to get my hands on your rust piece, already have a few ideas.

Welcome Back Anna and good luck with getting your spark back! The cards look good and what a great idea to make use of something you've enjoyed wearing instead of just junking it. I'll be sending you an email.

Welcome back Anna, hope you are here to stay :) Love that shirt, wow. Rust dyeing is on my list for next year, so many of the pieces are just so interesting, how can I resist? Hope you got my little rust art by now - who can tell with the post these days...xxx
